The Best NCS Cleaners in Abuja Get Awarded
Some of the janitorial staff stationed at one of UN agencies building in Abuja have been rewarded with certificate of excellence.
In its usual practice of identifying sincere efforts by its cleaning staff, Nigeria Cleaning Service Limited (NCS) has once again rewarded the outstanding performance of some of its personnel. These staff were selected and confirmed worthy of the prize by the clients who are the primary beneficiaries of their work. Members of staff who work in the UN building Abuja and who must have noticed the diligence and commitment of these cleaners were very happy to know that NCS Head Office in Lagos deem it fit enough to compensate these cleaning staff all the way in Abuja with such an award.
Survivors from the UN Building bomb blast were honoured
Part of the program was special gifts and honor given to two personnel who were at work during the 2011 Abuja bombing. On that sad day, Friday, 26 August 2011 there was a car bomb explosion in the Nigerian capital Abuja’s UN building that killed at least 21 and wounded 60 according to reports.
Two NCS cleaners who were at work on that day Blessing Attah(F) and Iliya Gambo(M) narrowly escaped death. Reflecting on the events of that sad day 11 years later, Blessing was badly wounded as she was working at the basement trying to dispose refuse when the bomb exploded. During the turmoil she was shocked to notice her belly had been torn up and blood was gushing out as she struggled to drag herself out of the basement. Fortunately for her, she was identified and quickly carried off by the rescue team to the hospital. The male cleaner Iliya said his own experience has left him with many scars caused by broken glass scraps from the windows during the blast. You could still see the marks on him till today. The two janitors were both taken care of and once they were fit enough they decided to resume work at that same place! To show that the management of NCS value their loyalty all these years both of them were also given monetary compensation to support their selves and their families. The gifts were presented by Mrs Ngozi Chukwuemeka and Mr Babatunde Lawal from NCS Head Office in Lagos. Also present at the visit was Emmanuel Domozu, the regional manager for NCS in Abuja and northern Nigeria.
The United Nations deputy House manager Steven Okana was on ground to receive the delegation from Nigeria Cleaning Service head office. Mr Okana was full of praises for NCS and the gestured accorded all the award recipients. He even promised them of some benefits in addition to what NCS has done.
The awardees were excited for the reward they got and thanked UN and the management of NCS for noticing them in their humble service. This gesture and compensation was done in order to show and prove that there is reward in service and also that there is dignity in labour. Subsequently, there were some light refreshment for every cleaner in the building, this obviously made everyone happy.
